Custom designed carpet tiles for MTN
Nexus, the commercial carpet division of Belgotex Floorcoverings (Pty) Ltd, developed custom designed carpet tiles in conjunction with the client for the refurbishment at the MTN Head office building in Fairlands, Johannesburg to produce floors on this project of which they can be justifiably proud.
1800m² of these 500mm x 500mm (solution dyed nylon for extreme conditions) carpet tiles, branded SDX Dynamix 002, was designed and manufactured specifically for this project, which was completed in December 2009. Mark Orton from the Nexus commercial division based in Johannesburg, worked very closely with the in-house facilities and procurement department to design a tile and colour to suit their specific requirement.
The flooring contractor for this prestigious contract was Carpet & Décor Centre "Johannesburg". Zunaid Bhamjee from the major flooring contractor said that these tiles were installed using a pressure sensitive adhesive that allows the tile to be picked up and repositioned or replaced easily – a particularly useful feature where high traffic areas are involved.
"Both the client and Nexus were very cooperative on this project, which involved us working after hours and at weekends in order to provide minimum disruption to the staff," says Zunaid.
Nexus also collaborated with MTN in producing a detailed professional maintenance programme, enabling their staff to keep these floors in pristine condition. "This was another successful installation for Carpet & Décor, and we are proud to have been of professional service on this prestigious project and great product," says Zunaid.
One of the main factors in the selection of Nexus for this project was that the Belgotex factory is ISO 14001 compliant and certified – the only carpet manufacturer in South Africa that carries this certification, and as such it met the MTN ‘green’ requirements for this project.
