Q: WHAT IS THE BEST ADVICE ANYONE HAS EVER GIVEN YOU?

A: "No good design just falls in your lap, you have to work for it, and through it."

Q: WHAT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST INFLUENCE IN YOUR CHOICE OF ARCHITECTURE?

A: "What influences me is contemporary living with its constant change of available technology, new material use and advanced construction methods."

Q: DO YOU HAVE A SIGNATURE ELEMENT OF DESIGN?

A: "I always tend to have one prominent element in a design that bends the set rules I created for it, whether it's a thick diagonal wall slicing through a linear design or a curved free form to create either tension or add 'n sense of quirkiness to the design."

Q: DO YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC THOUGHT PATTERN WHEN DESIGNING A BUILDING?

A: "It's custom to each project, but mostly I aim to marry predicted movement and circulation of the users with the concept and start to shape the rest of the design from there. "

Q: HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT STRESSING THE IMPORTANCE OF FLOORING IN A DEVELOPMENT?

A: "I regard flooring is one of the elements utilised by designers to direct flow or movement through a building as well as defining between spaces within. Movement is retained, focused or directed through the creation of different atmospheres, achieved through texture, colour and detail design."

Ben Kunz on Neo Dimensions:

Q: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE COMPANY'S APPROACH TO PROJECTS?

A: "Neo Dimensions has a holistic approach to projects. It includes the formulation of the client's brief, concept and ideas with the added input from the appointed consultants to successfully complete a project according to the prescribed brief, on time, within budget and of good quality."

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU CONSIDER TO BE NEO DIMENSIONS' FOCUS?

A: "Neo Dimensions Architects have a policy of innovative yet cost effective design and principles are personally involved on all projects. We pride ourselves in vernacular contextual architecture that addresses the client's needs whilst remaining socially and environmentally responsible."

Q: WHAT IS YOUR COMPANY'S DESIGN PHILOSOPHY?

A: "Our philosophy is to produce world class contemporary architecture."

Q: HOW DO YOU APPROACH WORKING WITH THE CLIENT?

A: "It's important to try and understand the client's needs and style (as well as clearly understanding the budget constraints from the start) to enhance the essence of it in the design and not impose pre-conceived personal ideas. The challenge lies in finding the balance between the client's needs/ style with the budget."

Q: WHAT PROJECTS DO YOU PREFER TO WORK ON?

A: "We prefer working on larger projects such as retail, commercial, specialised sports buildings and high density residential projects. That being said, it is always a treat to design a residential house for a client that appreciates our company's contemporary take on architecture."

Q: WHEN APPROACHING A DESIGN WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER FIRST?

A: "We establish a strong concept and ideology first to use that as the basis for all decision making thereafter. This insures that a sophisticated design language is taken through the entire design as the golden thread that ties everything together."

Q: WHAT IS IT THAT YOUR COMPANY HOPE TO ACHIEVE THROUGH YOUR WORK?

A: "Neo Dimensions hope to instill the concept that good designs can be cost effective as well. It will be great if the public can know that when an architect is involved in a project that it doesn't mean that it will be an over the top design costing a fortune, but that it will deliver a high quality and well designed building adding value to the client's investment."

Q: DOES GREEN DESIGN PLAY ANY ROLE IN YOUR OFFICE?

A: "Yes, definitely. We don't see green design principles as an afterthought to any design that needs to be superimposed later on by request of council and/or client, but as in integral part of the design from conceptual phase to technical documentation. We believe that the future of green architecture is to become so integrated with contemporary life that it is no longer seen as 'green architecture' but rather as 'architecture'."
